SnapShot IT Value Analysis

ROI v. TCO: What's the Difference?
Some Real-Time IT Value scenarios are in the form of an ROI analysis; others provide a TCO analysis. What information is provided with each?

Real-Time ROI: Gives you costs and benefits of a planned technology solution. You specify your workload, current IT environment, and future IT plans. Real-time ROI lays out your costs over 3 or 5 years for nine categories, including software, personnel, professional services, and more. In addition, it shows where you will get your financial benefits, and highlights the risks.

Real-Time TCO : Provides you with a side-by-side comparison of two options, typically based on different operating systems. Again, you specify your workload, current IT environment, and future IT plans. Real-time TCO then compares costs for the two alterative solutions, to see where you major spending and savings will occur with each option.

With both analyses you receive:

  • One-page SnapShot analysis (see a sample ROI or TCO SnapShot)
  • Project file, readable with the CIOview ROInow! or TCOnow! software
  • Complementary presentation license of the ROInow! or TCOnow! software used to create your project

Understanding your Presentation LIcense

What is a Presentation License?
After reviewing your Real-Time TCO/ROI SnapShot, you will probably want to understand the detailed assumptions behind your results or share the information with your colleagues. To do this, CIOview provides you with a Presentation License for the TCOnow! or ROInow! software used to develop your analysis. The Presentation License enables you to view the hundreds of data points, statistics, and heuristics behind your Real-Time SnapShot analysis. You can also print out individual topic pages.

Why would I need a Professional License of TCOnow! or ROInow!?
A Presentation License is essentially a "read-only" license. So, if you would like to change any of your assumptions, perform "what-if" analyses, automatically generate a detailed (50+-page) business case, or produce multiple TCO or ROI assessments, then you need a Professional License. You can upgrade from a Presentation License to a full Professional License either directly from your Presentation License or by contacting CIOview.

Requirements

All that is required to begin a Real-Time IT Value analysis is access to the Web and a valid email account. Your custom SnapShot will be emailed to you in PDF format. If you need the free Acrobat Reader, you can download it here.

If you would like to dig deeper, you can open the project file used to create your Real-Time analysis. You must download CIOview's desktop software to do so. It runs on almost any desktop or laptop, but the following configuration is recommended:

System Requirements:

  • Intel Pentium 4, 1.8 GHz
  • 1 GB memory
  • 500 MB free disk space*
  • Internet connection

OS/Software Requirements:

  • Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows XP
